How conviction labels get assigned before you see a sentence
October 27, 2026
A behind-the-scenes look at bankable, directional, and silent tiers, and how they map to Full, Clear, and Working in your reading.
Clients experience conviction as three words in the margin: Full, Clear, and Working. Internally, those labels are the last step of a longer pipeline.
Voting first, writing second
After adapters produce deterministic facts and per-lens interpreters return structured claims, the convergence engine votes on each shared axis. Claims cluster into three tiers:
Bankable findings cleared roughly four-fifths agreement across voting lenses. Directional findings sit in a middle band. Silent findings fall below the directional floor and never ship as headlines.
The post-engine pipeline receives that vote record before any client-facing prose is drafted. Page briefs inherit tier data so generators know which claims are allowed to lead a section.
Mapping tiers to labels
Full corresponds to bankable agreement on that item. Clear corresponds to directional agreement strong enough to state plainly but not yet unanimous. Working marks items that are directionally suggestive or sensitive to input precision.
This mapping is deterministic. Writers do not promote or demote labels for tone. If a rewriter touches a failing paragraph, it cannot upgrade conviction without new convergence evidence.
Why silent findings disappear
Silent is a feature. A reading that narrates every weak signal feels authoritative and performs poorly in client feedback. Meridian chooses omission over false balance.
When you reread your document months later, pay attention to what is absent. Absence usually means the engines disagreed or the input could not support the claim. That restraint is what makes the remaining sentences worth trusting.
If you want the client-facing explanation without pipeline detail, read the Learn guide on conviction labels.
