Meridian Reading versus career coaching and career tests
October 19, 2026
Meridian Reading versus a career coach and a career test: a person, a score, and a document, who each fits, and when the reading is the wrong tool.
Career help shows up in three shapes that get mashed into one search. A person. A test. A document. Meridian Reading is only the third.
What a career coach is for
A career coach works with you on the work itself: which roles to target, how to tell the story of what you have already done, how to practice the conversation, how to keep going after a silent week. The value is the relationship over time. Good coaching is specific to your materials and your market, not to a slogan.
"Career coach" is not a single license. Training and method vary. Fees vary, and this page will not pretend there is one normal price. Before you hire, ask what they are trained to do, what a month looks like, and what they will not take on. A career coach is not a therapist because the search is stressful. If you need clinical care, hire a licensed clinician.
What a career test is for
Career tests, including interest inventories such as the Strong Interest Inventory and various aptitude or values instruments, return a score, a ranked list, or a cluster of fields. Schools and employers sometimes pay for them. Companies sell others directly. The useful ones give you language for interests you can then go and test.
A score does not sit in the job on a boring Tuesday. It does not know a non-negotiable constraint. Treat it as a list generator. The picking still happens in contact with the work.
What Meridian Reading is for
Meridian Reading is a private 22-section life path reading, reviewed individually and delivered within 48 hours. Entry is $197 once. Reflections are labeled Full, Clear, or Working. It can show the pattern under the work you keep choosing, the season you are in, and which kinds of difficulty fit the way your attention works. It does not rewrite your resume, and it does not meet you next Thursday.
| Question | Career coach | Career test | Meridian Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | A person on a schedule | A questionnaire and a score | One written document |
| What you leave with | A search plan and someone who checks follow-through | Interests, aptitudes, or values in ranked form | 22 sections, with conviction labels |
| Built from | What you say in the room and the materials you bring | Your answers that day | Birth details, name at birth, parents' years, place, your question |
| Knows the job market | Often, if you hired for that | No | No |
| Price | Set by the coach. Ask them. | Varies. Sometimes an employer or a school pays. | Entry is $197 once |

Who each option fits
A career coach fits when you already know the direction well enough to be coached, and the work is materials, introductions, and nerve. A career test fits when the list of options is either empty or enormous and you want an outside vocabulary before you commit to a trial. Meridian Reading fits when you keep circling the same fork and another score would only rename it.
Plenty of people use two of these. A document, then a coach. Or a test, then a two-week trial of the work, with the reading as the longer mirror. That is a sequence, not a ladder of quality.
If the fork is quit, move, or a change of field, separate them in which path to choose when the next step splits. If you are not sure the field is the problem, the stuck diagnosis is how to pick a career when you are not sure yet. If the options already have names, use how to pick a career from options you can name.
When Meridian Reading is the better fit
Choose the reading when you want the chapter named before you pay someone to optimize a search inside the wrong chapter. The season you are in changes which job question is even real. Choose it when you have taken the tests and you still do not trust the result on a Thursday. Choose it when you want labeled limits instead of a coach's confidence or a percentile.
When it is not
Choose a coach when you need a human to look at the letter, the salary, and the follow-up. A document cannot do that job. Choose a test when you want a cheap or institutional prompt and you are willing to throw out whatever fails contact with your actual week. Choose a life coach, rather than a career coach, when the question is the whole life and not the work. That split is Meridian Reading versus a life coach.
Choose a licensed clinician when the stuckness is suffering that needs care. A career plan is not treatment.
The sample reading shows the document. It does not show a coaching call, because there isn't one in Entry.
